ABSTRACT
This research work investigated the Accounting practices existing in the public sector of the Nigerian Economy. A study of Imo State Transport Company. The analyses of variance (ANOVA) were used to test the hypotheses formulated. Based on the responses received from the respondents and the analysis thereof, findings were made which include that, the inappropriate application of. accounting practices did not cause ineffectiveness of the public sector. The lack of skilled manpower did not lead to bad financial reporting, bad governance and fraud. Based on the above findings the researcher recommends that accountability should be stepped up and encouraged by taking adequate disciplinary action on any public servant wanting in the discharge of his duty.
